工業廢水處理與回用。MBR在各種工業廢水處理中將會得到了更為廣泛的應用。在工業廢水處理中，應注意組合工藝的開發和應用，如MBR+物化工藝，高效菌種+MBR工藝等。由于工業廢水成份的復雜性，膜污染控制應予以特別重視。
飲用水源水凈化。如微污染水源水凈化、地下水脫氮處理等，都是今后值得研究的課題。
