With shrinking water resources, pervasive pollutions and more frequent and devastating drought and flood since 1990s, the global ecological balance and stability has been damaged, which in return poses a grave menace to human well-being and development. Moreover, as population increases and economy prospers, man’s appetite for water expands and many countries are stuck in the mire of water shortage, which has restrained economic and social development. China is not a water-abundant country, and problems like water pollution and wasting and insecure water supply are severe. Therefore, it’s urgent to promote water sustainability by improving water management and guaranteeing water supply safety. Supported by Chinese governments and international organizations, the annual International Conference for China Urban Water Development and Expo of Technologies and Facilities has been held for four sessions since 2006. It is one of China’s most attended conferences, and the Expo of Technologies and Facilities is held along with it. With participation of international water organizations, multinational corporations, water competent department of local governments as well as water companies and institutes, the conference has held comprehensive discussions on water policies and implementation, and the simultaneous Expo also exhibits water technologies and facilities. The Conference and Expo contribute much to the development of urban water.
