Conference Background

Ensuring urban water-supply security, implementing COD emission reduction mission and purifying urban water environment are the important foundation in the fulfillment of China¡¯s sustainable economic development, the improvement of life quality as well as the health status of the masses. For years, as the demand of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, great efforts from governments at all levels have been made to promote the establishment of water-saving cities, to speed up the facility construction of sewage treatment and to safeguard water supply safety. Meanwhile comparatively perfect regulations and standard systems have been established, giving a drive for water-saving in cities.

However, with the rapid economic development and the accelerating process of urbanization, the contradiction between water shortage and water demand increase is increasingly outstanding. Urban water-supply security and water environment are facing severe challenges. Firstly, the worsening tide of urban water pollution has not been reversed, with severe pollution and insufficient amount of wastewater treatment facilities. Secondly, urban water-supply security is in face of great challenges. Besides, problems are existed on urban water usage, for instance, low utilization ratio with serious waste. What¡¯s more, ecological restoration of urban water system will be an arduous task.

Against such a background, the 3rd International Conference for China Urban Water Development £¦ Exhibition of New Technologies and Facilities for Water Treatment will be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, R.P. China and IWA China Committee. The conference aims at introducing advanced concept, using for reference the successful experience as well as the technology of other countries on the development of urban water industry and expanding the communication and cooperation with academic field and enterprises domestic and aboard concerning water industry to effectively overcome the contradiction between water shortage and increasing water demand, further promote the process of marketization reform and industrialization course in China, guide the works of urban water supply, water saving, waste water treatment as well as resource recovery and to accelerate the technology advancement and mechanism innovation of water industry of China.
